Making your refrigerator cool again.

Refrigerators have been around forever.

I don’t recall anyone who has ever marveled at our fridge’ s greatness and the benefits to anyone out loud.

This once engineering marvel that elevated lifestyles and an entire industry full of frozen foods is not a mundane part of life item.

Here’s where I see the opportunity for IoT industry.

You see…technology has the effect to revitalize the old and forgotten. Technology that we either take it for granted or take it as a life necessity can be revamped. We have seen this time and time again throughout our history.

The refrigerator is the heart of the kitchen, so it’s important to design your kitchen around it. A poorly designed kitchen will make it difficult to reach your food and appliances, which can be frustrating and inefficient. I remember my parents always counted the steps needed to go from our fridge to the counter. This was how important the fridge was to the kitchen.

Then let’s expand on this concept.

What if your fridge gets the state-of-the-art 3nanometer chip with an overabundant neural engine from TSMC, coupled with the latest modem chip from Qualcomm plus image sensors from ADI?
Then add a software update so that it can seamlessly connect with your phone, your car, and your PC/tablet?

What kind of benefits are there?

My answer is: a Plethora!

Your fridge can be your personal assistant, your home keeper, your ‘Alfred’ to your ‘Bruce Wayne’ lifestyle, or your ‘Jarvis’ to your ‘Tony Stark’ lifestyle. Whatever suits your taste, but you get the picture, right?

Just imagine: As you are getting off work, your ask your phone to let you know “what’s in the kitchen?” “Is anything running low on inventory?” “Are any of ingredients reaching its expiration date?”

Or you can ask creative questions like “I feel like Italian this afternoon, could you let me know what’s in the kitchen to make an amazing Spaghetti Carbonara?” Then your phone will connect you to your fridge and the fridge will immediately assess the needed ingredients in the kitchen. If you have enough to make an awesome carbonara for you and family, then it will say ‘yes!’. If not, it will brief you on the things you need and guide you to the nearest mart.

See how it can transform our lives?

The stories are endless. The possibilities are all stories we can relate to. Its not a huge leap of faith to believe that our fridge can be the next iPhone moment.

Maybe it will or maybe it won’t. But I believe connected devices will make everything more convenient and make human beings productive to the new heights!
